Commissioned work. The most challenging part was to put the whole rainbow into the painting, but make it look serious and noble. Enjoyed the process a lot. No refs were used, although I looked through many gems' photos for inspiration. Here are some details:

This is gorgeous, gorgeous, GORGEOUS work.

I've scanned thousands of book covers for art compelling enough to make me stop dead, and in all those thousands you're the only artist whose work both made me stop dead, and compelled me to keep coming back to gaze some more.
